Welcome to the Institute for Information Systems and New Media (in German: Institut für Wirtschaftsinformatik und Neue Medien)

Our Institute provides courses in Information Systems for the Study Programs of Information Systems (Bachelor Program, Master Program) as well as for the Business Administration Programs of the University.

We are co-located with the Institute for Management Information Systems (in German: BWL und Wirtschaftsinformatik, Prof. Dr. Sarah Spiekermann) and share the same infrastructure, secretary and opening hours. While the emphasis of the Institute for Management Information Systems is targeted toward electronic commerce and enterprise-resource-planning, our Institute focuses on the construction and infrastructures for Information Systems (see our research areas).

In our IT specialisation of the master program "Wirtschaftsinformatik", we focus on introducing students to the concepts and to the practice of developing software using dynamic scripting languages (e.g., XOTcl). In a 10-week program, the San Franscisco based Dev Bootcamp taught a group of programming beginners Ruby in Rails. After having graduated, a majority of these novice programmers took well-paid positions in steering software companies (such as ThoughtWorks). For the full story, continue reading at techcrunch.com.
